Award for gender perspectives in research at University of Gdańsk
To promote gender-sensitive research, the MINDtheGEPs team at University of Gdańsk has instituted an annual award called I include gender in research. The prize is awarded the master and doctoral theses at the university from the last academic year that best include a gender perspective in their research.
One of MINDtheGEPs’ key areas is Gendering research and teaching, and as part of their work within the project, partners will issue awards for best theses or research finding on gender issues. At University of Gdańsk, a jury selects the winners after scoring them on how well they include a gender perspective.
The winning master thesis of the academic year 2021-2022 was Evolution of the image of female characters in shojo animation from the 1990s to the present day on the example of the Sailor Moon films by Katarzyna Jagłowska, for “capturing the dynamics of change in the contemporary definition of femininity by analysing the evolution of the film character”.
The winning doctoral thesis was that of Krystian Maciej Tomala, BIOgraphy of Man: Forms of masculinity in Tadeusz Różewicz's writing, for “its innovative approach to making cultural gender crucial in analysis of literature”.
The winners were presented during the international conference Science and Education for Sustainable Development, which was organised by University of Gdańsk at the end of November 2022.
