Gender equality, work environment and organisational ethics

ETF is one of the most respected and important institutions for science and education in Serbia. From that reputation follows an ethical obligation in relation to the work environment they provide. As an institution, ETF strives to develop good practice, not only in science: for society too!

As one of the leading higher education and research institutions in electrical engineering and computer science, ETF strives to improve work environment, ethics and equality for employees. One reason is to remain competitive in a global comparison, and able to recruit the best scientist.

The gender equality plan developed through MINDtheGEPs represents an important step in that direction. According to Milena Dimić, Head of HR department and GEO, MINDtheGEPs has helped accelerate the process of achieving gender equality at ETF, and helped build a solid foundation for the future. She points to two important factors that have helped the project succeed:

“First, the ETF management and community are problem solving oriented with a genuine desire to improve the status of a woman and those of the beginning of their careers. Second, we have formed alliances with individuals and institutions outside of the ETF to share knowledge and enhance our expertise”, says Milena Dimić.

ETF's experience shows that real progress in gender equality and workplace ethics comes from strong leadership and collaboration. Other organisations can learn from this by encouraging a problem-solving mindset and building partnerships to share knowledge and expertise. By taking similar steps, they can create more equal and inclusive work environments.
