MINDtheGEPs at the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology of Italy
On 2 October, the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology of Italy organised a webinar on gender equality to benefit from activities performed at the European level through the MINDtheGEPs project. During the webinar, Nicolò Marchesini from the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) showed how the European Commission's requirements regarding gender equality in research performing organisations can translate into tangible actions.
Nicolò Marchesini is a social statistician and a research fellow at the Institute of Research on Population and Social Policies, National Research Council of Italy. His presentation on "Gender Equality at the National Research Council: The MINDtheGEPs project as a change driver" at the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology of Italy covered available, past and present gender data. Going beyond theory, Nicolò Marchesini showed how the European Commission's requirements regarding gender equality in research performing organisations can translate into tangible actions within the organisation.
The webinar was successful and managed to attract a large group of male researchers, representing more than one third of the audience. In addition, attendees included directors and staff of the Equal Opportunity Committee at the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology of Italy and CoaRA working groups. The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology represents traditional STEM research fields, and the presentation provided a social science perspectives on gender equality.
