Open Forum: The MINDtheGEPs approach to evidence-based policies for Gender Equality Plans
Facts and figures helps us take the cultural and structural actions needed to achieve gender equality. MINDtheGEPs partners are developing and implementing Gender Equality Plans (or ‘GEPs’, built on data from across the organisation. On 12 May 2023, at 10 CEST we present results and policy recommendations from our mapping of the push and pull factors that are (de)constructing gender inequalities across a research career, and on different levels. Why? Because gender is a social structure that is characterized by multiple intersected barriers, requiring multiple intersected actions to be removed.
Knowledge about gender imbalances can contribute to sustainable change. During the Open Forum, Cristina Solera from the Centre for Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Turin, Manuela Naldini from the University of Turin and Lucio Pisacane from the Italian National Research Council (CNR) will present the results from our rich qualitative and quantitative data collection project and our recommendations for how to draw evidence-based responses to build effective gender equality plans in research performing organizations. We will share evidence and recommendations that cover:
- Decision making bodies: gendering leaders and institutions
- Balancing recruitment and career progression
- Improving work-life balance
- Gendering research and teaching
The recommendations are published in a the first MINDtheGEPs policy brief - No data: No policies! The MINDtheGEPs approach to evidence-based policies for Gender Equality Plans.
