Why do we need to work with a gender perspective on research and teaching? And why it is important to reflect on the intersectionality of the authors we quote, participants we invite to our studies, students we work with and audiences we disseminate our outcomes? Join us on 13 January at 14:00-15:30 (CET) to learn more about the approach to include a gender perspective in science.

In this Open Forum, Natasza Kosakowska-Bezrezecka and Magdalena Żadkowska from the University of Gdańsk will share their expertise on working with a gender perspective in research and teaching. They will be presenting the key take-aways from our policy briefs “Teaching with gender in mind: Tools for gender-conscious teaching & inclusive learning environments” and “Research through a gender lens”. During the Open Forum, there will be opportunity to ask questions to the speakers.

About the policy briefs

In an era where inclusivity and diversity are increasingly recognised as fundamental pillars of education, it is important to ensure that teaching practices are gender-sensitive and inclusive. The policy brief “Teaching with gender in mind: Tools for gender-conscious teaching & inclusive learning environments” summarises what individual teachers can do to increase gender equality in the important task of shaping future generations. And how they can work to formalise teaching through a gender lens in your organisation.

The recommendations in the brief “Research through a gender lens: Tools for gender-conscious research across various fields & organisations” aims to empower researchers to work towards gender equality both on their own and in their teams and organisations. Teams with a mix of gender produce more novel and higher-impact scientific ideas and gender diversity leads to better science. And no team, individual, or even organisation can fix a broken system on their own – but together we are strong!
